What Are Quilters Blogging About Today?

You may remember the Gingham patchwork top I shared a couple of weeks back in this blog post. I turned it into a cushion.

The fabrics are all linen / cotton blend. The solid is a classic Essex Linen and the prints are from Polk collection designed by Carolyn Friedlander. I chose a matching cotton fabric from another CF collection for the envelope back.

I have been wanting to make something in patchwork with a Gingham look for a while and decided to use the scraps from my current hand applique curves project to give it a try.

When I decided to make a few masks last week I read several tutorials and posts. I chose the version that spoke to me the most among those available on the Internet and for which I had all supplies. I hadn't any elastic in my stash so I went for the ties. Actually this may be a better option with the thought of repeated cleaning. I also heard that elastic can be irritating around the ears over time.

If you had asked me last week if I intended to sew masks I would have answer 'no'... But I called at my doctor's office for scheduling an appointment and the medical assistant asked me to wear a mask when I come. We talked a bit and she told me they were about to run out of masks. So I asked if a DIY fabric mask would be suitable for me. And a few hours later I was sewing masks for our family ... We still have a few disposable masks left but I prefer saving them for my son ...

Last october I shared in this blog post a few blocks using free form curves. Three of them were small tops of the size of cushion covers.
